Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
